  Lucas Walton
Personal Information

I grew up in the Finger Lakes region of New York. My interests in music began when I started piano lessons at age 5, and continued with horn lessons at age 9. After high school, I went on to study music education and performance at the State University of New York at Potsdam, New York, and then music performance at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I majored on the horn, but piano has more or less become my primary instrument these days. Outside of the music realm, I enjoy video games, movies, reading, exercising, woodworking, gardening, and relaxing with my wife Lauren, my dog Laney, and my chickens Pepper, Ginger, Basil, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Clove, and Poppy.

 About  Mr. Walton

Experience

This is my seventh year teaching music! I was previously a music teacher in New Hampshire. Before that, I lived in Michigan, where I was a preschool teacher, and before that I was a teaching assistant with the school of music at Western Michigan University. I have been involved in many music ensembles, such as orchestras, bands, quintets, horn choirs, chamber winds, choruses, and even vocal jazz ensembles! Ask and I would be happy to share some of my recordings!

Philosophy

Everyone loves music. It's unavoidable.

Music is an integral part of every day life. Whether you're a professional musician, or you listen to the radio and sing in the shower, music is something all human beings love and experience every single day.

Beyond that, music is an excellent medium to develop the young brain. Few other activities stimulate as many brain areas as music does. Music can help students process new information faster, so they can become better students in all areas of learning.

It is important that all students experience some form of music education. Through varied musical experiences, students learn to understand and appreciate all forms of music, past, current, and future, and from around the entire world.

The Future Sounds Good

The music programs at Stapleton are a fantastic foundation from which to build towards the experiences students will have at our middle school and high school programs. We have an incredible fine arts program here at Framingham, and it all begins in elementary school.

I look forward to what our Kindergarten through Fifth grade students will do in their futures as musicans!

I'd love to hear from you!
